Relocating for the First Time? Here's What You Need to Know
For moving day, the first step is to ensure the older adult's comfort and arrange for a trusted family member or friend to accompany them throughout the day. Prior to the movers' arrival, make sure all essential items are packed in a separate bag, including medications, important documents, and other necessities. The movers will load all packed and labeled boxes into their truck. Once everything is loaded and secured, the older adult can be safely transported to their new, downsized home or assisted living center. The moving company will then unload and, if previously arranged, help unpack and set up the new living space. Finally, once everything is in place, take a moment to help the older adult get oriented and ensure they feel safe and comfortable in their new surroundings before concluding with a final walkthrough to ensure everything was moved properly.
