At Discipled Movers, we know that moving into a new home can be an exciting and stressful experience all at the same time. It can be difficult to know just how to approach the process of packing and moving out of your old home and into the new one. Here are some tips to help make your move as stress-free and efficient as possible.
How To Effectively Move Into Your New Home
Decide What You Really Need
Residential moving already involves putting your whole life in boxes, so it’s a great opportunity to declutter and decide what you really want to keep. You can donate some clothes that don’t fit anymore, or finally get rid of that cable that you don’t even remember what it goes to. Less to pack means fewer boxes, which means less unpacking down the road. Give your future self a break.
Get Everything Ready Far In Advance
Start packing as soon as possible for moving day so that you aren’t caught off-guard when you look at the calendar — which should already probably be in a box. This goes double for hiring a moving company. The further ahead of time you book your move, the better chance that we’ll have an opening for your schedule.
Use every organization tool available to you. Colored tape and permanent markers are great ways to keep track of what room of the house a box is moving into. Pack essential items together and mark them as such so that you know what boxes to unpack first.
Make An Unpacking Plan
Once you’ve arrived at your new home, plan out the order and process by which you will unpack. This will make the transition much smoother and will help ensure that you don’t miss any important items. This is where organization can really come in handy, as knowing what boxes go where and which boxes contain more important items makes the unpacking process more efficient.
